healthy living tips facts

CrossFit Games 2021 will be taking place in a few weeks and many CrossFit Games participants are very excited. Apart from the usual men's and ladies' competitions, there will be some women's events. We all know about the Reebok's equipment, Pegboard contest, cutting system, and women's event. However, we don't know much. Continue reading to find out! And don't forget to check out the CrossFit news page for updates on the competition!

Women's competition

The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and Jonne Koski won in the first event. Koski took the overall title after she held her lead through the entire competition. Tall finished second and Eramoo O’Connell third, respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.

The women's competition is filled with top-level athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler, a rising star who competed for the team division in 2018, finished third in America and fifteenth overall in 2020. Aside from these athletes, the Women’s competition will also include a newcomer, Sara Sigmundsdottir, an Icelandan competitor, who won first place at the World Crossfit Games earlier.

Pegboard contest

Pegboard competition at Crossfit Games 2021 was the first. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr held the record for most Games wins with 30. Sager won Event 11 men's and received his third Games win. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Pegboard tests the grip strength and coordination of competitors. The competitors compete by holding two wooden stakes between their fingers. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.

Cutting system

CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. The question is: How will CrossFit adjust points after cuts? The scoring table used to determine the winners in the 2019 games was very similar to the one used to determine the losers in 2021. This is why it's most likely that the current system will be used.

This year's field consists of 236 athletes, making it the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games. Major cuts occur in the first six events. The field then drops to 75 athletes. The top 30 finishers compete in a sprint pairt to determine who is the top ten. From there, the top twenty athletes compete in the six remaining events. Castro's system was criticised by veteran Games participants, who felt that the cuts were too significant.

Reebok's equipment

Reebok has announced new sports shoes, clothing, and other equipment for the CrossFit Games. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They are built to accommodate multiple fitness needs. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar, which promotes durability, breathability, and strength, is the shoe's upper. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

CrossFit and Reebok's partnership will end in 2020. Reebok has sponsored these Games for over a decade. However, it now appears that the company's involvement in the Games is decreasing. The company won't fund the Games' prize purse, but will continue to make all of the athletic apparel and equipment worn by athletes, including the new Reebok gear. The company won't refer to itself as "Reebok crossfit games" anymore.
