Women are competing
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. Koski was the overall winner after keeping her lead throughout the competition. Tall and Eramo O'Connell finished second and third, respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.
The women's contest is filled with high-level athletes. The field features nine athletes, including a 19 year-old Australian powerhouse who won this competition last year. Kara Saunders from Australia, who placed second in Australia and 11th globally in 2020 are other contenders. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. Aside from these athletes, the Women’s competition will also include a newcomer, Sara Sigmundsdottir, an Icelandan competitor, who won first place at the World Crossfit Games earlier.
Pegboard contest
Pegboard contest at Crossfit Games 2121 was a new concept. It was also added to the Games' Olympic summer program. Toomey-Orr won 30 of the Games' most events, setting a new record. Sager won Event 11 and became the Games' third winner. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

Athletes train for the CrossFit Games by focusing on ten general physical fitness skills: cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, and agility. Competitors are tested on their grip strength and coordination in the Pegboard contest. Competitors hold two wooden pegs between each hand and compete to win. The competition was fierce and the athletes felt a sense accomplishment after finishing the Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games has a new cutting system for individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? The scoring table used during the 2019 games was almost identical to that used in 2021. It is likely that this will continue.
This year's CrossFit Games Field includes 236 athletes. This is the largest field in its history. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. The top 30 competitors then compete in the sprint couplet to determine which athlete is number ten. From there, the top 20 athletes compete in the remaining six events. Castro's system was criticised by veteran Games participants, who felt that the cuts were too significant.
Reebok equipment
Reebok recently announced new CrossFit Games equipment, including clothing and shoes. The Nano X1 is the new shoe. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe.
