The CrossFit Games 2021 are on the horizon, and many of the participants are incredibly excited. Along with the usual CrossFit Games competitions like those for men, there will also be events for women. You've heard of the Reebok equipment, the Pegboard contest and the Cutting system. But do you know what to expect from the women's competition? Continue reading to find out! Keep checking the CrossFit news section for the latest updates about the competition.
Women's competition
The swim event was the start of the women's division at the 2021 Crossfit Games. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. Koski was the overall champion after she maintained her lead throughout. Tall and Eramo O'Connell finished second and third, respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.
The women's competition features top-level female athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders of Australia, who was second in Australia and eleventh in the world in 2020, are also contenders. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. Aside from these athletes, the Women’s competition will also include a newcomer, Sara Sigmundsdottir, an Icelandan competitor, who won first place at the World Crossfit Games earlier.
Pegboard contest
Pegboard competition at Crossfit Games 2021 was the first. It was added to the Games' summer Olympic program along with double-unders and dumbbell overhead squats. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 men's and received his third Games win. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games is a training program that focuses on 10 general fitness skills. These include strength, flexibility, power and speed as well as cardiovascular endurance. Pegboard is a contest that tests competitor's grip strength as well as coordination. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. It's not as extreme as the cuts used in past Games, but still very different than this year. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. One question that remains is how CrossFit will adjust the points distribution after cuts. The scoring table used to determine the winners in the 2019 games was very similar to the one used to determine the losers in 2021. This is why it's most likely that the current system will be used.
This year's CrossFit Games Field includes 236 athletes. This is the largest field in its history. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. The top thirty athletes then compete in a sprint team to determine the top 10. From there, the top 20 athletes compete in the remaining six events. Castro's system was criticised by veteran Games participants, who felt that the cuts were too significant.
Reebok's equipment
Reebok has announced new sports shoes, clothing, and other equipment for the CrossFit Games. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Although Reebok calls this shoe "the shoe for fitness", it feels more like a training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit and Reebok's partnership will end in 2020. The Games have been sponsored by Reebok for over a decade, and it's now clear that the company's involvement will be decreasing. Reebok will not fund the Games' prize pool, but it will still make all the equipment and apparel worn by athletes, even the Reebok gear. The company won't refer to itself as "Reebok crossfit games" anymore.
